No One Does Family Style Quite Like Pharrell

Off-White’s Fall-Winter 2022 presentation, its first since the death of designer Virgil Abloh, took place earlier this week. An Abloh affair always brings out a grip of famous, stylish friends both

on and off the runway, and this was no exception. This time around, attendees included Rihanna and A$AP Rocky, Givenchy designer Matthew Williams, Luka Sabbat—and Pharrell Williams, his wife Helen Lasichanh, and their son Rocket. On an evening with no shortage of next-level style, Pharrell and family came correct with some of the most memorable looks of the night.

Pharrell wore a belted trench coat, white slacks, and glossy black brogues with “Special Events” printed in Abloh’s beloved Helvetica on the side. There were clever utility details at play, too—pull cords on the shoes, a cargo pocket on his sleeve. And of course, he wore his custom gem-ringed Tiffany shades, his go-to accessory of the moment. Meanwhile, Lasichanh donned a slouchy white suit, printed with a meandering tonal pattern. But Rocket might just have upstaged both his mom and dad with just-right baggy blue jeans, Balenciaga sneakers, and the crème de la crème: a choice Off-White letterman jacket. The graphic-driven piece is a bit of a deep cut. Off-White’s latest collections are full of elegant tailoring and haute couture, but the graphic-heavy threads (often featuring diagonal strikes and bold logos) are undoubtedly synonymous with Abloh’s earlier and breakout work. This jacket could have been from as far back as 2013, a nice homage to the late designer’s streetwear roots.

This moment of family fashion wasn’t a one-off, either, as the family has had quite the stylish year to date. In January, the trio attended the Chanel and Kenzo shows and posed together at each. At Kenzo, there was a father-son parka moment. And at Chanel night, a more monochromatic palette plus what looks to be a customized Chanel cardigan for Rocket. (Perhaps a perk thanks to your dad being a long-time collaborator with the French luxury house.)

Pharrell is no stranger to the fashion week circuit, and to see him posing alongside his wife and son is a joy. Rocket has two wildly stylish parents, and it’s clear that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. This all reminded me of novelist Michael Chabon’s excellent GQ essay on his son’s fashion week experience, which too features an Off-White cameo. Only time will tell if Rocket’s personal style will rival his father's. (No pressure, Rocket.) But for now, Pharrell and family are looking tremendous and having fun together—and when it comes to getting dressed for fashion week, you can’t really ask for more than that.
