Selena Gomez was among the lucky ones who got to see Dua Lipa's sold-out show at Madison Square Garden this week. Gomez attended the concert with two friends, her WonderMind co-founder
Daniella Pierson and LA-based entrepreneur Zen Matoshi.
But because Gomez went somewhere publicly with an attractive young man, the Daily Mail honed in on that, writing in its headline, “Selena Gomez keeps a low profile as she enjoys cosy date to Dua Lipa's NYC gig with dashing tech entrepreneur Zen Matoshi.” Already, Matoshi's Instagram is starting to get commenters asking about him and Gomez because they were seen in public together once.
Gomez didn't post about the concert, and Pierson, who shared the photo of her, Gomez, and Matoshi together backstage at the show, didn't characterize it as a date at all. “We’re ‘Levitating’ ?✨ @selenagomez @zenmatoshi,” Pierson captioned the image of the trio. Matoshi is actually Pierson's friend; he appears in another recent Instagram post of Pierson's, where she wrote of him, “Get yourself a friend with great sweater style ? @zenmatoshi.”
Could Gomez and Matoshi have privately been on date? Sure, but it's just as possible they weren't. No source said they were dating, and the Daily Mail presented it as a date solely because Gomez and Matoshi were photographed being escorted in together by security. Matoshi appeared some distance behind her. The two did not appear coupley in the shot.
Gomez addressed the trouble men who spend time with her face because of her A-list fame in an interview with the Los Angeles Timeslast March. She spoke then about the attention her Only Murders in the Building on-screen love interest Aaron Dominguez got when they were shooting scenes for the show, and PDA photos of them came out. They had been in character in the pics.
“We had just started working together. I honestly thought, ‘No wonder guys don’t want to date me!’” Gomez said. “I think people only care because I’m young, and the older I get the less they’ll care. For now it’s a part of the job that I don’t really like. I’m actually grateful that I’m not involved with anyone right now.”
In June 2021, a source told Entertainment Tonightthat dating wasn't Gomez's priority: her mental health and career are.
“Selena is very traditional, she would love to find ‘her person’ and get married and have a family one day,” the source said. “She is not looking for something serious now and is in no rush to settle down as her priority continues to be her health, career and philanthropy work.”
“She has worked so hard on her physical and mental health over the past few years, and she knows she must be the healthiest version of herself if she's going to share her life with someone else, so she will only get involved in a serious relationship when she feels ready,” that source added.
