1. Adesua Etomi, Daniel Etim-Effiong to host AMVCA nominations
The nominations for the eighth edition of the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) has been confirmed for Saturday, March 19. The unveiling of this year’s AMVCA nominees in 33 categories will be hosted by actors Adesua Etomi and Daniel Etim-Effiong in a special broadcast on all Africa Magic channels on DStv and GOtv from 9pm WAT.
Speaking on the broadcast, MultiChoice Nigeria Executive Head, Content and West Africa Channels Busola Tejumola said: “We received a good number of quality entries from across the continent for this edition of the AMVCAs and we are pleased to reveal the final shortlist of nominees, which we are confident embody the excellence the awards is renowned for.”
For this edition, Africa Magic announced a new category for Best Online Social Content Creator and the return of the Best Africa Magic Original Drama Series and Best Africa Magic Original Comedy Series bringing the total number of categories to 33.
2. Singer Kelis’ husband Mike Mora dies aged 37

Kelis’ husband Mike Mora has died following a battle with stomach cancer. The “Milkshake” hitmaker’s spouse, who was just 37, had revealed he was diagnosed with stage four cancer in October 2021. Confirming the sad news of his death, Kelis’ management told the press: “Sadly, it’s true that Mike Mora has passed away. We would ask all to respect Kelis and her family’s privacy as of right now. Thank you.”
The photographer began suffering the “worst pain” in his belly he’d ever had a year before his devastating diagnosis, as well as a loss of appetite and discomfort in his back, and although he left it “a bit late” to seek medical advice, he was hopeful he did so “just in time”, but a doctor gave him just 18 months to live.

South African singer Tamsyn Maker has died. Tamsyn was a member of the band Blackbyrd. Tributes have been pouring in on social media for the singer. Her passing was confirmed in a Facebook post by Corinne Dellipini Abrahams. “Tamsyn Leigh Maker, Our beautiful niece, and cousin, gone far too soon??We are extremely saddened and devastated by your passing,??? You were just too beautiful for this world.??Heaven gained a gentle beautiful soul.., Rest sweetly our beautiful niece, ?forever in our hearts??,” read the post.
Her partner Kyle Davids also shared a heartfelt post about her passing. He spoke of the time and love he and Maker shared.
May her soul rest in peace.
4. Crackdown on mobile app money lenders in Kenya

Digital and mobile app money lenders in Kenya have been given until the end of September to either apply for an operating license or cease operations. The Central Bank of Kenya Governor, Peter Njoroge says regulations governing the lenders will be published later this month, meaning all the apps will be regulated by the government. They’ve often been accused of predatory behavior, high interest rates, and customer harassment for those who failed to pay the loans on time.
The government has since early 2020 blocked digital lenders from listing defaulters with Credit Reference Bureaus — saying the companies had abused the system. These lenders are popular in Kenya because of their fast loan processing.
5. Barcelona to rename stadium ‘Spotify Camp Nou’ as part of new deal with streaming giant

Barcelona will rename their stadium “Spotify Camp Nou” as part of their partnership with the streaming giant, according to a press release on Tuesday. The partnership also includes naming rights on the front of both men’s and women’s team shirts and training shirts beginning in the 2022-23 season. The Blaugrana have played at Camp Nou since 1957, with this being the ground’s first corporate name change.
“Spotify will use the partnership to shine a spotlight on artists from all over the world,” wrote the company in a statement. “This will bring the worlds of music and football together, giving a global stage to players and artists at Spotify Camp Nou. The partnership plans are subject to the ratification of the Barcelona Members Assembly, which will take place in early April.” However, Barcelona have already confirmed the stadium name change on their own website.
