The Kardashians' Hulu reality series is now just starting to detail what Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker have been going through privately in their pursuit to have a child together. A
source gave Peoplea little more detail about how long ago the couple decided they wanted to have a baby—and how challenging their journey to conceive via in vitro fertilization (IVF) has been.
“[They] decided to try and get pregnant after they had dated for a few months,” the source said, noting they started the IVF process “last summer.”
“It's been an emotional rollercoaster,” the source said. “They never expected it to be as hard as it's been. It's been especially difficult for Kourtney. They still would love to have a baby. Travis is not putting any pressure on Kourtney though. He just wants her to be happy and healthy.”
Kardashian spoke in this week's episode of The Kardashians (shot in the fall) about the side effects her fertility medicine was causing her. “Every single person on social media is always like, ‘Kourtney's pregnant, Kourtney's pregnant, Kourtney's gained so much weight.’ I'm like, it's so rude to comment on people when you have no idea what they're actually going through,” Kardashian told her mom Kris Jenner in one scene. “The medication that they've been giving me, they put me into menopause.” (Kardashian is 43.)
Kardashian added that she has also experienced depression as a result. She told her mother that the reason she and Barker want to have another child, despite having multiple children from previous partners, is because “we want to make something together.”
“Yeah, of course,” Jenner said. “You wanna bring your own baby, your own love into the world. You both know exactly how it feels to have a child and how to bring a child into the world, and now you want to do it with the love of your life.”
