A
uthenticity is the courage to be yourself in spite of where you are, and that can be said of the face-servings from last week. The pandemonium of themed activities threatened a
reason to blend in, but that wasn’t the case. Rather, Black women chose to unapologetically shine in authentic beauty looks, thus, reminding all and sundry that individuality truly never goes out of style.
The Looks
Makeup
Peach is a color that always flatters Black women whether it’s an outfit or lipstick. Tamar Braxton put this to the test last week and as usual, the hue triumphed. Considering that it’s available in a plethora of shades, the key to a winning look is to match to your skin tone. For example, Braxton’s muted coral pairs nicely with her olive skin. Moving away from her lips, the singer opted for prominent brows and witchy lashes to add a dramatic flair to the subtle lips, and we were certainly impressed with the result.
The one-time basic liner is getting spiced up, and we “likeee”. No jokes, the beauty scene is literally buzzing with new liner trends every week — floating, reversed, curved, you name it! Last week, French model Didi Stone took a spin on the floating liner to an outstanding effect. What was most refreshing is that the liner singlehandedly stole the show. Yes, no eyeshadow was in sight! It was an overall subtle look and the floating liner was clearly the only drama we needed. Talk about authenticity.
Hair
Good hair-day is every day if you’re Chloe Bailey as the girl sure knows how to put her mane to good use. As expected, last week followed in like fashion. The “Have Mercy” singer sported an African-inspired hairdo that featured twists coming together in crowning glory. If originality was a hairstyle, it would definitely be this.
