In a testament to how much a couple months can change things, exes Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello both attended the Met Gala tonight—but separately this time after their breakup. Last
September, they made their couple debut on the same red carpet.
Cabello was on the red carpet second tonight, wearing a Prabal Gurung white lace-up crop top with a full skirt including pastel floral detailing and an extraordinarily long train.
Cabello teased her attendance at the Met Gala on her Instagram earlier today, praying her period wouldn't start because of the dress she's wearing.
“Send prayers plz,” she wrote. “I am not trying to give red wedding today #metgala.”
Mendes, meanwhile, attended with Tommy Hilfiger earlier. He leaned into Bridgerton vibes, wearing a navy and burgundy suit jacket and pants, which was suitably on theme:
On the red carpet, the two missed each other, having different arrival times. It's unclear at this point whether or not the two spent time together inside the event.
In April, Mendes spoke to Extraabout how close he and Cabello have privately remained following their November breakup. (The two dated for over two years before splitting and were longtime friends before their romantic relationship.) “Camila and I have always been writers for as long as we've known each other, so we understand what that means,” he said of their writing breakup songs about each other. “And we respect what that means. And there'll always be transparency between us.”
To E!, he added, “Camila heard this song [‘When You're Gone’] months ago, so we have a really honest relationship. I would never really put a song out about her before she would hear it.”
He also said, “She knows me and I know her, and ultimately, we both are writers and we both know what it is to make music and what the bigger picture of making art is. We're supportive of that, always.”
