lavish wigs or slipping into dramatic, eye-catching costumes.
For this year's Met Gala theme—gilded glamour and white tie—Minaj stepped onto the carpet with her own spin on the dress code, courtesy of Burberry and creative director Ricardo Tisci. The rapper looked stunning in a strapless black-feathered tier high-low gown with sheer sleeves and bright embellishments strewn across the chest, back, and sleeves, teamed with black legging boots. Minaj punctuated the look with a black cap that revealed her black flowing locks falling down her back and a large belt with a gold buckle.
Minaj's 2022 Met Gala look comes two years after her last Met Gala appearance in 2019. Following the theme titled Camp: Notes on Fashion, Minaj wore a powder pink ballerina dress with diamond embellishments and satin tie-around heels, a look that made her feel "Barbie-ish."
In 2018, Minaj was the talk of the night at the Met Gala's Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination. Channeling her "bad guy" alter ego Chun-Li, she opted for a darker interpretation of the theme, dressing in a sultry black and red ombre gown and matching headpiece.
The rapper missed the 2021 Met Gala due to its vaccine requirements. "I have an infant with no nannies during COVID. who mad? Not risking his health to be seen. One yaself," she said in one tweet. In another tweet, she mentioned that whenever she gets the vaccine, "it won’t for the Met. It’ll be once I feel I’ve done enough research. I’m working on that now."
