All About Christian Richard, Christine From Selling Sunset's Husband
Many who binge their way through Netflix's Selling Sunsetwill find themselves strangely preoccupied with the cast member's love lives. There's Chrishell Stause's headline-making divorce from This is Us star Justin Hartley;
persistent rumors about Mary Fitzgerald and her former flame/current boss Jason Oppenheim; and, of course, the whirlwind courtship between Christine Quinn and her new husband Christian Richard.
The pair quietly dated behind-the-scenes after the first season of the hit real estate show. By the time Quinn arrived to film season 2 (via a private jet, naturally), she and Richard were engaged and living in a multimillion-dollar mansion together. The other agents had questions about the speedy nature of their relationship—and where exactly Richard amassed his tech fortune. Ahead, everything we know about Quinn's other half, including his reservations about appearing on Selling Sunset.
He's a retired software engineer.
When Quinn was discussing her relationship with the agents at The Oppenheim Group, she described her fiancé as “big in the tech world.” She added, “He went to MIT, and he’s a software engineer and has worked for multiple companies, multiple development projects. And he’s retired." Quinn told Women’s Healththat Richard helped launch one of the original food delivery businesses. It became so successful, in fact, that Richard was able to retire by age 41.
He and Quinn live in the $5 million home she previously listed.
Although many of Quinn's co-workers questioned how she and Richard met (and if he was truly single at the time), she told Women's Health they were set up by a mutual friend. "[He’d] just moved to L.A. from the East Coast and we had a mutual friend who insisted on introducing us," she told the outlet. "When we finally went on our first date, we hit it off instantly and fell in love quickly." Quinn said Richard was initially set up with said friend, but it didn't work out. "My girlfriend went on a date with him and she's like, 'Hey, I went on a date with this guy who I really don't like. I know you're single, you may want to go out with him,'" Quinn told Refinery29.
As Quinn recalls on the show, she sold Richard their home after they'd been dating for nearly two months. "The house he ended up purchasing was actually my dream home before I even met Christian," Quinn told Women's Health. "I remember prior to meeting him, I would sit in that open house every Sunday and picture myself living there, getting coffee with my husband, and that manifestation came true—I now live in the house that I envisioned myself in with my husband."
The Hollywood Hills listing boasts four bedrooms, six bathrooms, and earned Quinn a $150,000 commission, as seen on the show. Purchase of the home was reported by Global Property and Asset Management, Inc. in January 2019. Quinn was mentioned in the piece, as well as Christian Dumontent. He's identified as the former CEO of Boston's Foodler, which sold to GrubHub in 2017. This suggests Christian may use a different name now that he's appearing on Selling Sunset.
They were married in an on-air ceremony less than a year later.
"Christine, I met you in Beverly Hills not even a year ago, and I absolutely fell head over heels in love with you,” Richard said in a toast at the couple's engagement party on the show. “We had dinner, she was wearing this red dress, and we hit it off in the car. We had instant banter which is really special, you don’t get that too often. I pursued her, and she’s a tough catch. But here we are now, she’s amazing, complements me perfectly, and we’re building a life together."
Their instant connection is evidenced by their fast-paced romance. Richard proposed to Quinn on Valentine's Day 2019, she revealed to People. They were married on December 15 of that year in an avant-garde ceremony described as a “gothic winter wonderland-themed wedding.” 75 guests attended, including Quinn's Selling Sunset co-stars, for a ceremony that included faux snow, swans, and the bride walking down the aisle to
While Richard and Quinn's wedding was undeniably unique, she told Peoplethe way it was portrayed on Selling Sunset didn't depict it accurately. “The wedding was the best day of my life and it was hard for me to watch it on the television show because that’s not really the way that I remember it,” she told the outlet. “I understand they wanted to get certain storylines in there, but this was actually my day. This was my day, and I was just disappointed in the way it was perceived on camera and translated, unfortunately. I’m not going to lie, I was crying when I watched it. I was like, 'This is not my wedding, this is not my wedding.'”
He initially didn't want to be on Selling Sunset.
While Chrishell's ex-husband Hartley and Heather Rae Young's now-fiancé Tarek El Moussa (HGTV's Flip or Flip) have never appeared on the show, Richard was involved in seasons 2 and 3. But Quinn told Refinery29 that he wasn't always thrilled about the idea. “After we got back to L.A., we got picked up for another season and I asked him, ‘Do you want to be on it?’ He said, ‘Oh my gosh, this is so not me.’ He’s really, really shy, but decided to do it for me,” she recalled. “He’s on the show quite a bit and, bless his heart, he tries, but [filming] is a really awkward thing. It’s not organic in any way. It’s not reality in any way.”
Unlike Quinn, Richard isn't super into fashion.
While Quinn is known for her over-the-top style on the show and Instagram, Richard doesn't have the same flair for fashion. In fact, the only photos of Richard on Quinn's 'gram are from their wedding day and he doesn't appear to have a public profile. "My husband doesn’t care about fashion at all," Quinn told Women's Health, adding, "I buy him so many amazing designer clothes, and he just wears the same thing over and over and he doesn’t care. He’s never really cared about the finer things in life or fancy things at all, so he just loves when I do my thing, and he trusts me and knows that I have really great taste. So, he’s always like, 'You do your thing, I trust you. Whatever you pull together, it’s always fabulous.'"
Richard and Quinn are still together.
As of August 2020, the newlyweds are making the most of their time at home. "We're doing great. We're best friends. It's awesome," she told People. "I just wish we could travel, obviously, but that's okay. I've been cooking. I've turned this ho into a housewife, and I'm Martha Stewart-ing, every night, making homemade pasta and doing the stuff I never had the time to do before. It's actually really great. I do enjoy it."
