Videos Show 3 Trans Women Being Brutally Attacked and Mocked in Hollywood

Content warning: Vivid images of anti-LGBTQ violence.

After a night out with friends early Monday morning, Eden Estrada (who goes by Eden the Doll on YouTube) just wanted to go home.

But as she waited for an Uber in the Hollywood area of Los Angeles with two friends, a man spotted the trio and began to taunt and attack the women. Eden and her friends were robbed, beaten, and, as videos of the incident show, mocked and jeered by bystanders with anti-trans slurs as they tried to retrieve their belongings and begged for help.

“It was absolutely the worst day of my life,” Eden the Doll told CBS Los Angeles. As the crowd grew larger, the attacks became worse as many people began to hurl insults and derogatory terms at the women instead of calling the police or seeking help. Hours after the incident, Eden decided to take things into her own hands and created a highlight on her Instagram story labeled “Help” where she chronicled the night’s events and identified the man she says attacked her and her friends, along with brutal footage of the attacks.

Eden, who has close to a 500,000 followers on Instagram and nearly 300,000 subscribers on YouTube, attributes her status as an influencer to the story getting the recognition it deserves. “I know that I’m so privileged, because I am a YouTuber and because people know who I am, but this happens all the time to women like me who aren’t on social media. We need this to stop,” she added.

Ahead, everything you need to know about the attack and what you can do to help.

What happened the morning of August 17?

In Eden the Doll's newest Instagram highlight titled "Help ?," she explains that she was "robbed, attacked, and jumped in Hollywood tonight" along with her friends Jaslene White Rose and Joslyn Flawless. The next slide is a screenshot of the alleged attacker's account, followed by footage of the incident she said he recorded and posted. His account was public but is now private with zero posts.

Eden said the assailant stole her phone as she waited for her Uber home, and when she approached him to retrieve her phone, "his friends started throwing rocks at us" and chased the women down when they tried to run away. A few slides later, video of the incident shows a group of men joining the others in attacking Eden, Jaslene, and Joslyn. At one point, a man steals Jaslene's bag and hits her, causing her to tumble to the ground. In the next video, a different man picks up a nearby scooter and throws it as Jaslene.

The footage also shows another man hitting Jaslene in the head as Eden tries to buy back her phone from a stranger on the street. Jaslene appears to pass out, and the men can be heard saying "she's dead" and "hit her again" as Eden pleads with the men to call the police. Eden wrote on her Instagram Story that she heard sirens wailing nearby and finally felt relieved that someone was coming to help, but "the cops stopped, looked, and kept driving."

Joslyn posted a video to her page that showed one of the assailants threatening to kill her for being transgender.

"He held a crowbar to my face and threatened to kill me unless I stripped my shoes off and gave him my jewelry and all my processions. He said if I was trans he would kill me. He then forced me to hold his hand while he looks for my friends to kill them for being trans. Meanwhile men and WOMEN screaming that I’m a man and telling him to beat me. Please help us find them. PLEASE," she wrote.

"I don't care if you don't like me or aren't a fan or even hate me. No one deserves this. Women like me get murdered on the daily. I recognize my privilege. I know how lucky I am. But what about those who aren't?" Eden also wrote on Instagram.

Have any celebrities showed support?

Yes. Singer Zhavia Ward reposted a few videos of the attack to her personal Instagram account to raise more awareness. "Last night my friends were targeted, attacked, and robbed by a group of men. This is the reality of how trans women of color are treated. This footage was recorded by the men on one of their Lives and posted for their entertainment. These men humiliated them, robbed them, threw scooters at one of them, knocked one of them unconscious and busted her head open, one pulled a knife on one of them and threatened to kill her," she captioned the videos. Ward urged the public to come forward with any footage or information they may have of the men involved.

Actress Indya Moore also reposted one of Eden's Instagram Stories to her profile and called for unity within the Black community. "Black people must do better to center trans people within our community and target transphobia. . we are all collectively up against white supremacy in this world, the on going swaths of transphobia and violence in trans peoples lives is becoming more challenging to fight alone and white supremacy too," she wrote.

[ Vía @edenthedoll ] *****This happened in Hollywood to these women and I'm sharing because I want to uplift their stories.******* Last night 3 trans trans women of color @edenthedoll, @jaslenewhiterose, @joslynflawless survived a terrorizing act of humiliation and violence. They were beaten and robbed by a mob of a few cis men of color (a few of whom were black), for their entertainment. The video was recorded by the person who the Instagram account @stevofilmz belongs to, he accompliced the attack against these women. @yoodavion also accompliced the attack. This egrageous act of violence and anti trans terrorism occurred on Hollywood BLVD in Los Angeles California. In the footage you can see the police slow down and see what's happening and continue to speed up and out. Numerous bystanders recorded the incident and did not provide any capacity of aid to these injured women. Every day time and time again, it is proven that the welfare life peace safety of black and brown trans femmes is betrayed by everyone including the very black and brown people we are and fight for. The senseless targetting of black and brown trans femmes with violence, and baseless punishment must come to and end and for so long as Noone centers the intra communal and systemic wide liberation of black trans women none of us Will be free. Black people must do better to center trans people within our community and target transphobia. . we are all collectively up against white supremacy in this world, the on going swaths of transphobia and violence in trans peoples lives is becoming more challenging to fight alone and white supremacy too. #protecttranswomen #nomorelipservice If you can identify these men please let me know in the comments.

How can the public help?

The Los Angeles Police Department has said the investigation is ongoing. Eden is asking for the public to help her identify the suspects and call the LAPD to demand justice.
