Men’s tartan pants are among the most coveted staples of the season, a true classic that makes a comeback in Fall and stays with us

The pants we have spotted on the Dolce & Gabbana and Dries Van Noten runways revisit the tartan pattern in a gray or brown palette. The tartan pants from the Italian brand feature a comfy wide-leg fit with darts and a cuffed hemline, while the carrot style from the Belgian designer stands out for its signature tapered cropped line.
Emporio Armani and Comme Des Garçons interpret the tartan pants with a contemporary twist taking inspiration from two worlds where this classic fabric has always been a regular feature. The brand designed by King Giorgio revisist mountain wear for the modern man courtesy of ample pants with darts crafted from checked wool in a subtle and fine motif, while the fabric used by Rei Kawakubo’s house stands out for its strong hues and busy pattern that evoke a punk, 70s vibe.

Other interesting variations on the checked theme are offered by Fall Winter 2020 2021 collections from Gucci and Martine Rose. While Alessandro Michele enlarges and fades the check print into an almost psychedelic pattern in bright tones, making the pants great to go out at night, the British designer minimizes the check into a two-toned, urban micro-pattern for functional daywear.
