Jason Sudeikis, Olivia Wilde's ex-fiancé and the father of her two children, seems to wish anything but the best for her and her new boyfriend Harry Styles. Us Weeklygot insight from
a source on how badly he wants to win Wilde back. (There's been no word yet on how Wilde feels about this effort publicly playing out in tabloids.)
Wilde, 36, and Sudeikis, 45, dated for nine years and were engaged for seven. News of their engagement ending broke in November, with People reporting the split actually secretly happened at the beginning of 2020. Now, some sources claim the split was actually in November; others maintain the early 2020 timeline, so it's complicated.
Still, Sudeikis is heartbroken that his ex has moved on.
“Jason’s had no option but to step back and let Olivia do her thing, but he [has his fingers crossed] that this is just a phase and that Olivia will snap out of it or that Harry will get bored and move on before too long,” a source told Us. “He’s desperate to win Olivia back to repair their family.”
A source told Entertainment Tonighton Monday that despite Wilde and Styles dating for a few weeks now, the former One Direction singer isn't to blame for Wilde and Sudeikis' relationship ending.
Sources spoke in November about why the two broke up, with one source telling Entertainment Tonightat the time that "there was absolutely no drama or scandal; they just didn’t work as a couple anymore."
A separate source close to Wilde said that "they just fell out of love in a romantic way, but still have love towards one another as people. They consider themselves friends and co-parents first and foremost. They are committed to co-parenting successfully for the sake of [their kids] Otis and Daisy and have done a great job so far at staying connected in a healthy way for their relationship and for their children."
Us Weeklyalso got insight on why they broke up, with one source saying they disagreed on what city to make their home base. “Of course, there were arguments and fights over career decisions and where to live," the source said. "Like most couples, they had disagreements, they were bicoastal, but Jason loved living in New York and Olivia, who was born in NYC, was leaning more toward Los Angeles. She was also busier than him at times, which was difficult at times. They butted heads on many occasions and decided it was best to go their separate ways. Bottom line: they had issues and they were never going to get married.”
