Cardi B Lands Her First Starring Role in Upcoming Film Assisted Living

Cardi B is headed to the big screen.

According to Variety, the "Bodak Yellow" rapper is set to make her starring-role debut in the upcoming film Assisted Living. The Paramount

picture is described as a "raucous comedy" with "tremendous heart," à la classic comedy films like Sister Act, Mrs. Doubtfire, and Tootsie.

According to the outlet, Cardi plays a small-time crook who quickly finds herself "in over her head when a heist goes wrong." On the run and struggling to find an appropriate hiding place, she disguises herself as an elderly woman and hides out in the one place no one would think to look for her: the nursing home where her estranged grandmother lives.

Though Assisted Living will mark the megastar rapper's first stint in a starring role, it's not her first time acting in a major motion picture. Most recently, Cardi scored a minor albeit scene-stealing role alongside Jennifer Lopez, Constance Wu, Keke Palmer, and Lizzo in the critically acclaimed stripper-heist film directed by Lorene Scafaria, Hustlers. The star is no stranger to television as well, having made her debut as a cultural force and then burgeoning rapper on the VHI reality show Love & Hip Hop, which she was on from 2015 to 2017, and as a judge on the Netflix music competition series executive-produced by John Legend, Rhythm + Flow.

Assisted Living was reportedly in a bidding war last spring, with the narrative based on an original spec script from This Is Us writer Kay Oyegun.
