The MTV VMAs is the first major U.S. awards show to attempt an in-person ceremony during the coronavirus pandemic, and unsurprisingly, some big A-list stars there in previous years opted not
to fly over from Los Angeles for the New York City show. Nick Jonas and his brothers were three of them. Nick and his wife Priyanka Chopra stayed in Los Angeles despite the Jonas Brothers having a MTV VMAs nomination for Best Pop Song ("What a Man Gotta Do").
With only one nomination (one they ultimately lost), no performance lined up, Joe Jonas having recently welcomed a new baby with Sophie Turner, and cross-country travel generally being frowned upon right now due to COVID-19, it's an understandable decision.
Chopra has spoken about what life in quarantine is like with her husband. She told Paradeearlier this month that she celebrated her birthday on Zoom with family and friends and that most days, Chopra and Nick “don’t step out” of their house.
“I’ve never been more in touch with my friends and family as I have been in quarantine,” she started. “To have people from all over the world on a Zoom call where I could see their faces and they could see mine was something that probably wouldn’t have happened in [a] normal situation. It would have been a birthday with you know a few friends that you have over. You never end up doing Zoom calls or like seeing their faces or FaceTiming with everyone together virtually.”
