Awards show lovebirds Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello won't be getting cuddly in any audience tonight at the MTV VMAs. The couple, who hasn't been photographed out together since May, aren't
at the in-person New York City ceremony or making any joint appearances remotely. Why? Neither Mendes nor Cabello have any individual nominations. Cabello's cinematographer for her "My Oh My" music video, Dave Meyers, is up for the Best Cinematography VMA though.
So are Cabello and Mendes together right now? No—but it isn't necessarily because they broke up. Cabello is back at work shooting her upcoming film Cinderella in London. (She is playing the titular character.) Mendes, meanwhile, was last photographed leaving the studio in Los Angeles on August 19. Interestingly, he met up with his ex Hailey Baldwin and her husband Justin Bieber that day.
Cabello posted about being back in the UK on her Instagram on August 18. "i’m just tryna make friends with baby deer ???? back in the UK, finishing Cinderella !!!! i love this movie, so proud to be a part of it already, can’t wait for u to see ?"
At the beginning of the quarantine, Mendes and Cabello stayed together in Miami. On May 31, they were photographed attending a Black Lives Matter protest together. That appearance came five months after Cabello publicly apologized for her racist old Tumblr posts.
She wrote her Instagram and Twitter that "when I was younger, I used language that I’m deeply ashamed of and will regret forever. I was uneducated and ignorant and once I became aware of the history and the weight and the true meaning behind this horrible and hurtful language, I was deeply embarrassed I ever used it....As much as I wish I could, I can’t go back in time and change things I said in the past. But once you know better, you do better, and that’s all I can do."
