Shortly after celebrating her daughter turning four months old, Gigi Hadid finally revealed one of the biggest public mysteries surrounding her little girl: what she and Zayn Malik named their baby.
Gigi made the announcement subtle, changing her Instagram bio to say "khai's mom." She didn't elucidate on why the couple chose the name Khai, but TMZ got intel from a source close to her and Malik regarding the choice. Khai wasn't just chosen for its Arabic meaning (it means "crowned" in the language). It was chosen because of deep family reasons.
Gigi's grandmother on her father Mohamed's side was named Khairia; the source said the name Khai was in tribute to her. Khairia passed away in 2008. She descended from nobility, Gigi's father revealed on Instagram. "Her great grandfather was the Prince of Nazareth - King of Galilee in the 18th century Daher Al-Omer The Ruler," he wrote in a tribute last May.
And Gigi adored her grandmother, Mohamed detailed in April 2020. "My Mom ( Allah Yerhamha ) Khairia Daher Hadid would have been so proud of @gigihadid today .. gigi loved everything about Tata. GiGi won first place in an art competition of a portrait of her Tata. This picture was taking 1955 in Beirut. She was a stunner Great Mom a wife a Tata to thirty or so Grandkids. We and I miss her every time I breath. Look down from above. Saying happy early birthday GIGi. You make me proud."
The name Khai also pays tribute to Gigi's sister Bella, whose full name is Isabella Khair Hadid (likely in tribute to her grandmother, too).
