Every once in a while, we notice dry skin on our faces or other parts of our body appearing scaly; then, we ring the alarm. Relax! Dry skin is more common

than you think and could happen to anyone but what’s for sure is it doesn’t have to remain that way.

Dry skin could be caused by a wide range of underlying issues, from the weather to aging. But it is definitely not a death sentence or a necessary evil. By being more conscious of what you wear, what you consume, and what you apply to your skin, dry skin can totally be kept at bay. We have compiled seven home remedies for dry skin

Keep dry skin docile with these easy tips…

#1. Exfoliate

When you have dry skin, your skin will often appear scaly and/or itchy. Exfoliating helps to scrub and remove dead skin cells giving way to newer, brighter skin. As helpful as exfoliating can be, it’s not advisable to over-exfoliate. Once a week is just fine.

#2. Moisturize that dry skin

Invest in a good moisturizer and apply after a shower to prevent developing cracked skin. It traps in moisture and leaves the skin supple. Besides daily moisturizers, there are several other hydration options when your skin can’t handle an additional layer. Lightweight alternatives can be emulsions, face oils, or sunscreens. However, make sure to use products that contain only natural ingredients because they can gently moisturize and cleanse your skin without causing harm to it. For instance, products made from goat milk, aloe vera, or cocoa butter are more effective and gentle and can keep your skin soft and flake-free.

#3. Hydrate to prevent dry skin

Drink lots of water. Health authorities commonly recommend eight 8-ounce glasses, which equals about 2 liters, or 0.5 gallons per day. Adequate hydration helps rid the body of toxins that lead to dry skin and, in turn, maintain glowing skin. This is one of the most critical steps to take for better skin. If you notice that 8 glasses of water isn’t cutting it for you, then add another cup or two. The more water you drink, the better for your skin but don’t overdo it.

#4. Avoid hot water bath

Taking a bath with hot water further dries up the oil in the skin and leaves it scaly. Warm water is a better option, and don’t forget to apply moisturizer immediately after.

Use coconut oil on dry face skin, cracked heels, and the entire body. You can also add natural oils like avocado oil into your bathwater. This will help the skin replenish its natural oil and eventually become moist and succulent to touch.

#7. Dress up with the weather in mind

Protect your skin when harsh weather is imminent. Cover your face and avoid long walks in the winter season and protect your hands by wearing gloves during cold weather. Also, try not to overexpose your skin under the sun and always apply sunscreen. Basically, protect your skin from the elements at all times.

No matter what happens, having great skin is possible, but you have to be intentional about it. So self-care and glow up!
