Sustainable Fashion: S.S.Daley for Vogue Talents February 2021

Sustainable fashion: this is the main theme of Vogue Talents February issue.

The British brand S.S.Daley is one of the brands selected for the Vogue TalentsFebruary 2021 Issue. The designer Steven

Stokey-Daley has told us about his work and his sustainable approach to fashion.

“My initial venture into fashion came about unexpectedly when I was studying art foundation and had some incredible guiding voices that helped me understand how to channel my interests in literature and theatre. There’s no shallow romantic notion of wanting to be a designer my whole life. Instead, I find fashion to be an alternative forum for exploring my literary passions.”

“So far my work has been an observation of a male-dominated culture. I became obsessed with the surreptitious nature of the queer experience in novels like Maurice and Brideshead Revisited. As a working-class kid from Liverpool, navigating this more aristocratic realm felt alien and dangerous, as if it wasn’t meant for me and I’d be caught out by doing so. I flipped the idea on its head and looked at what British boarding schools have produced in real life: most of our current governing body. The animalistic character of their social cues recalls Lord of the Flies-style interactions. With this in mind, I worked to convey the light, homo-social representations of their world in my collection.”
