Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced the news that they're expecting their second child on Valentine's Day, just months after Meghan shared she suffered a miscarriage in July in a New
York Times personal essay. Peoplespoke to sources about the immense joy the couple is feeling now about expanding their family.
After the Duchess of Sussex's miscarriage, Meghan and Harry were "hopeful that they would get pregnant again," one source said. "And they were overjoyed that it happened so quickly." The source added that initially, "they were both nervous, and it took them a while before they could relax and fully enjoy this pregnancy."
Giving their first-born son Archie, one and a half, a little brother or sister was always the plan for the couple though: "They always wanted for Archie to have a sibling close in age," People's source said.
Meghan and Harry love being parents, a royal source told the outlet: "They can't wait to share that even more with a second child. They are both so happy to have their little family."
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's spokesperson released a statement announcing that baby #2 is coming. "We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child," the spokesperson said. A photo of the expectant couple, taken by friend and photographer Misan Harriman, was also shared.

Harry spoke to Dr. Jane Goodall previously about how the couple wants to have just two kids in a British Vogue interview.
Harry addressed how he sees climate change now that he's a father: “It does make it different,” he said. “I think, weirdly, because of the people that I’ve met and the places that I’ve been fortunate enough to go to, I’ve always had a connection and a love for nature. I view it differently now, without question. But I’ve always wanted to try and ensure that, even before having a child and hoping to have children…”
“Not too many!” Goodall interjected, laughing.
“Two, maximum!” Harry said. “But I’ve always thought: this place is borrowed. And, surely, being as intelligent as we all are, or as evolved as we all are supposed to be, we should be able to leave something better behind for the next generation.”
