 About the project

The photo story ‘Love is like a Dance’ was shot by photographers Attila Kenyeres and Fee-Gloria Groenemeyer. The story is about two men dancing an emotional tango together to show their love for each other. We wanted to examine what would happen when two photographers with two different perspectives interpreted the same story. How their gaze changes the narrative and emotion that is explored through the images.

The two different styles of photography represent the duality in tango itself. Fee’s more composed, disciplined and structured shots represents the tight rules, the strong poses and silhouettes, the power of the characters. On the other hand, Attila’s dreamier and hazy close-ups and detail shots represent the passion, the sexual tension and lust between the dancers. Even the act of photographing the subjects was like a dance itself. Each of the two photographers dancing around the two subjects trying to get their shots.

Both structure and passion are essential in tango and create the enigmatic synergy it lives of. This translates into the editorial through the combination of both artists’ images melting into a singular holistic vision.

UNREHEARSED INTIMACY

Tiptoe through the open door

Curiosity overcomes fear

When the earliest sense roots

Steps rise in tides with gravity

And brush across the timber floor

Curling joints can lead or follow

Particles that break free in orbit

Will enter the liquid state of intimacy

To fill the shape in mist or void

With the palm around the waist

A double-headed drum for others to exist

Thoughts rotate extended fingertips

Scale and fall up with soft frequency

Open chests regard nature built

Their eyes hum in motion as calligraphy

Two curved spines shape our own

Flattering shadows in unison

While DNA winds into each other

A cloaked figure in the past

The wish is not tomorrow ́s reality

Until you move today
