Jeannie Mai and Jeezy are married. “The Real” morning co-host and the Grammy-nominated rapper said “I do” one year after getting engaged. The couple tied the knot in an intimate ceremony at their home in Atlanta on March 27. Jeannie Mai and Jeezy revealed to Vogue magazine that they originally wanted to get married in Lake Como, Italy, or the South of France. However, amid the coronavirus pandemic and the unexpected death of Jeezy’s mother, plans where changed.

The couple made sure to follow COVID-19 protocols before having their celebration. “Once everyone was tested and confirmed negative, our guests were shuttled to the surprise location — our home,” Jeannie explained. The pair also recently launched a charity wedding registry in support of Stop Asian Hate.

2. Nigeria: NIN-SIM linkage – Nigerian Government extends date to May 6

The Federal government has approved the extension of time allotted to the National Identity Number -Subscriber Identification Module, (NIN-SIM) linkage to May 6, 2021 as NIN-registration process records over fifty one million people have been assigned NINs. The approval was given at a meeting with the Ministerial Task Force on the NIN-SIM data linkage chaired by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Pantami.

In a joint statement by Director, Public Affairs, Nigerian Communications Commission Dr. Ikechukwu Adinde and Head, Corporate Communications, National Identity Management Commission, Mr Kayode Adegoke said the request for the extension was presented to President Muhammadu Buhariand he endorsed it.

3. South Africa: First batch of SA’s Astra Zeneca vaccines sent to AU

The first batch of SA’s unwanted AstraZeneca vaccine doses have been dispatched to the AU, the health ministry reported on Friday. SA sold its supply of the vaccine, totaling one million doses, to the AU after tests showed it offered scanty protection against the 501Y.V2 variant of the coronavirus that was discovered in SA at the end of last year.

The 18 AU member states that Nigeria, Senegal, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Liberia, Egypt and Uganda will receive the vaccine as well. Health minister Zweli Mkhize said the sale ensured that SA would “not incur fruitless and wasteful expenditure.”

4. Ghana: COVID-19 – Ghana to take delivery of 300,000 more vaccines

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has disclosed that the country expects to take the delivery of 300,000 COVID-19 vaccines next week as part of a campaign to vaccinate 20 million persons before the end of the year. In his Easter message to Ghanaians today, President Akufo-Addo said 600,000 Ghanaians have already been vaccinated under Ghana’s vaccine campaign.

He said: “We began a vaccination campaign with some 600,000 persons vaccinated. We expect that in the course of the coming week, an additional 300,000 vaccines which we have purchased will have arrived in the country for deployment. Our target is to vaccinate 20 million persons by the end of the year. In other words, the whole adult population of Ghana.”

5. Iheanacho named EA SPORTS’ Premier League Player of the Month

Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho’s brilliant form in March has seen him named the Premier League’s EA SPORTS’ Player of the Month. The Nigerian international footballer scored five goals in March, including the equalizer against Brighton & Hove Albion, a stunning volley away at Burnley, which was in contention for the Budweiser Goal of the Month award, and a hat-trick in City’s 5-0 win against Sheffield United at King Power Stadium.

He was one of eight players shortlisted for the award and beat the likes of Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane, Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez and Manchester United’s Luke Shaw to the accolade.
