Kermit the Frog Is Getting His Own Stan Smith
and the posters were plastered all over New York City. Then, the streetwear juggernaut released Kermit-adorned T-shirts, skate decks, and stickers. (Nowadays, the goods show up on resale websites with $1,500 price tags.) A couple years back, Bearbrick gave the iconic green frog the streetwear toy treatment, as well. And now, Kermit is getting his own signature Adidas sneaker.
It’s been a big year for Adidas collaborations: with filmmaker-slash-style-legend Jonah Hill, with Italian fashion powerhouse Prada, and of course, the brand’s ongoing partnership with Pharrell. Now we can add Kermit the Frog to the list. One of the Three Stripes’ most beloved sneakers—the forever-classic Stan Smith—gets remixed with plenty of Kermit-esque details. We’re talking lime green heel caps, Kermit graphic on the upper, and the Muppet’s signature “It’s not easy being green” catchphrase stitched on the heel. Plus, the classic low-top tennis shoe is also made with 50% high-performance recycled materials. (Talk about going green!)
This isn’t the first time Kermit has teamed up with the Three Stripes, either. Back in 2006 and then again in 2011, the character and brand released a pair of slightly cartoonish sneakers: Stan Smith Adicolors and Superstar IIs, respectively. However, this is the first one that sticks to looking like a wearable sneaker, rather than something you might buy at a toy store. It’s been a minute since Kermit the Frog has shown up in the world of style and sneakers, but this collaborative Stan Smith proves he’s back once again to regain his title as the reigning king of streetwear amphibians.
