Following the recent announcement of its new brand identity and store opening plan, Dutch brand
Scotch & Soda has now opened its biggest store globally in the Dutch city of ‘s‑Hertogenbosch, also known as Den Bosch.
The opening had been planned for late March but was pushed into April.
The store is housed in a former theatre built in 1919 in the Amsterdamse School style by the architect AJ Hekker. It became a cinema after World War II. The company said it’s “celebrating the uniqueness of the location” and has “blended its colourful history and architecture with modern touches”.
The shopping experience is spread over three floors and 510 square metres of selling space, offering all the brand lifestyle collections, including womenswear, menswear, kidswear, footwear, eyewear, fragrances, as well as premium denim line Amsterdams Blauw.
The new store is also intended to be “a social as well as retail space” in line with its new Free Spirit store concept. It includes a bespoke bar serving complimentary soft drinks, “encouraging a communal experience”, and a dedicated family fitting room “where kids will be encouraged to get creative with an art wall and a series of laughing mirrors”. A reservations-only lounge with a private dressing room is also available.
The company has already opened two other Dutch stores in recent weeks and plans to add 12 more standalones and 12 concessions globally by the end of October. It already has a network of 227 stores and 161 concessions.
Its expansion plan includes existing markets such as the US, Germany, France, Israel, Australia, Middle East, Ukraine, Switzerland and Sweden plus a debut in Poland in September. And it’s looking to expand its presence in China and Italy with the opening of showrooms in Shanghai and Milan in June.
