The Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) has barred its registered directors from hiring or working with actresses Iyabo Ojo and Nkechi Blessing. TAMPAN executives at a recent press briefing instructed that its members desist from working with the actresses over claims that they have, in recent times, disrespected the association on social media. Speaking on behalf of TAMPAN, Nigerian veteran actor, Jide Kosoko revealed that though the actresses are not members, the association will not be constantly disrespected by allegations made on social media by them. The association also threatened to frustrate the actresses out of the film industry despite their non-membership status.

2. Samuel L. Jackson to receive honorary Oscar at 2022 ceremony

Samuel L. Jackson is among a number of actors set to receive honorary Oscars at the Academy’s Governors Awards next year. Alongside Jackson, Elaine May and Liv Ullmann will also be presented with awards, while the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award will go to Danny Glover.

The 12th Governors Awards, the first since the 2020 edition was cancelled due to COVID-19, will be held on January 15, 2022.

3. South Africa: Cassper Nyovest goes on a rant after lockdown level 4 announcement

Following South Africa’s president Cyril Ramaphosa’s address on Sunday when he announced that the country would be moving to lockdown level 4, rapper Cassper Nyovestweighed in on the matter.

The Doc Shebeleza rapper took to Twitter in a rant in which he said he hopes the country makes it out alive because livelihoods are “officially gone.”

Ramaphosa said the level 4 lockdown would be implemented for 14 days.

4. Ethiopia announces Tigray ceasefire as rebels hold regional capital

Ethiopia’s government declared a “unilateral ceasefire” in Tigray on Monday, as rebels claimed retaking the regional capital of Mekelle. In a statement, Addis Ababa said it was pausing hostilities to prevent disruptions to the farming season and to allow the distribution of humanitarian aid.

The United Nations has called for an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council to discuss the situation in the country. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres considered these events “extremely worrying.”

5. Messi makes history in Copa America win

Lionel Messi scored twice as he became Argentina’s most capped player in their 4-1 win Copa America win over Bolivia. The 34 year old Barcelona forward made his 148th international appearance, to take Javier Mascherano’s record.

Messi set up Papu Gomez’s sixth-minute opener, before scoring a penalty and adding a second just before half-time to extend his record goals tally to 75. They take on Ecuador in the quarter-finals on Sunday, while Uruguay play Colombia on Saturday.
